USING ESSENTIAL OILS vs FREGRANCE OILS
Fragrance oils and essential oils are both commonly used in linen sprays, but there are some differences between the two.
Essential oils are natural oils extracted from plants and carry the characteristic aroma of the plant they are derived from. They are often used in room sprays for their natural and therapeutic properties. Essential oils offer various benefits and are favored for their aromatherapy and air-purifying qualities.
On the other hand, fragrance oils are synthetic or artificially created oils that are designed to mimic specific scents. They are manufactured to provide a wide range of fragrances and are often used in commercial air fresheners and perfumes. Fragrance oils can offer a broader spectrum of scents and are often more affordable than essential oils.
With that said, there are manufactured fragrance oils that are made with the exclusion of harmful ingredients such as phthalates, parabens, sulfates, BHT, BHA, PEG, and diacetyl. These are also rated skin-safe and are more suitable for use in your linen spray.
Some sites I have come to trust to provide quality fragrance oils are:
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE LINEN SPRAY
- Begin by filling the spray bottle with 1 1/4 cup distilled water, using the funnel to avoid spills.
- Next, pour 3/4 cup vodka or rubbing alcohol into the bottle.
- Add around 20-30 drops of your chosen essential oil (or fragrance oil) to the mixture. The number of drops may vary depending on the strength of the scent you desire.
- Tightly close the spray bottle and shake it well to ensure the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Your linen spray is now ready to use! Before each use, remember to give the bottle a gentle shake to evenly disperse the essential oils in the mixture.
When using your homemade linen spray, lightly mist it over your linens, bedding, curtains, or even in the air to freshen up your living spaces. You can also personalize your linen spray for different purposes, such as using calming scents for bedtime or invigorating scents for the morning.
