After reviewing and even sampling quite a collection of recipes, I think I have finally created the perfect mouth watering solution! I’m proud to share with you this healthy and delicious dog treat recipe.
I will confess, these treats smell and taste delicious! With all natural ingredients, there was no shame in some quality control sampling on my part.
However, I will say the boys hate sharing them.
This recipe only requires 6 simple ingredients. That is to say, most are common kitchen staples. The ingredients are as follows: old fashioned oats, peanut butter, whole wheat flour, baking powder, unsweetened applesauce, and coconut oil.s
I started by measuring out all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Once everything was measured out, I mixed the ingredients together with a wooden spoon. Now, if you notice the dough seems a little crumbly, add a little more coconut oil or applesauce. Combine all ingredients thoroughly. You should be able to knead the dough easily without it falling apart.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to approximatly 1/4″ thick, using a rolling pin.
I purchased these inexpensive dog bone cookie cutters from Amazon. They came in a few different sizes which is perfect because the Great Dane much prefers an appropriate size treat!
Taking my pre-prepared baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat, I spaced each treat about 1/2″ apart. {Ya’ll, if you don’t have one of these mats you’re really missing out! They minimize waste in the kitchen and I never have waste because something sticks!} Keep in mind these treats do not rise, so go ahead and load that sheet up.
Baking at 350 degrees for approximatly 25 minutes, they are done when the edges turn light brown. In the end, this recipe made approximatly 35-40 various sized treats.
